The Royal Borough of Greenwich will invest £389,000 into improving the facilities at the Community Hospice, writes Tom Appleby…
The investment will create a more comfortable and supportive environment for patients who are receiving end-of-life care.
The new measures include refurbishing rooms with en suites, redesigning the reception area, and introducing more natural light and garden access.
As well as improving patients’ experiences, the project will focus on improving employees’ working conditions, and a wellbeing hub will be established to help staff relax and recuperate in-between shifts.
The plan will be financed by local developers after a consultation with staff, volunteers and patients at the hospice.
There will be a strong emphasis on sustainability, and in particular, limiting energy use and running costs to channel more resources into patient care.
The development also aims to create a more inclusive environment to reflect the diverse community of Greenwich, ensuring that all cultures are welcome and all ways of grieving are respected.
Aneta Saunders, deputy chief executive at the Community Hospice, said: “As a charity, partnerships like this make a real difference, allowing us to improve our buildings, support our staff, and ensure more local people can access the care they need, when it matters most.”
Councillor Mariam Lolavar, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and Borough of Sanctuary, also hailed the investment.
“We know how important it is that residents receive compassionate, high-quality care at the most difficult times in their lives,” he said.
“By investing this funding into the Community Hospice, we’re helping to create a more dignified and supportive environment for patients and their loved ones.”
