A group set up to help refurbish Guy Street Park in Snowsfields is calling for volunteers to get involved ahead of its first meeting next week.
Last year the council announced funding to refurbish Guy Street Park on Weston Street, unveiling designs including a re-surfaced sports court, a ‘picnic and contemplation garden’ and better accessibility.
The little park near London Bridge was designed by the world’s first female professional landscape designer in 1899, and hasn’t had a refurb since the early 2000s.
The council invited the community to share their views on the suggestions, drawn up ahead of plans which were approved for a £350 million life sciences hub on Snowsfields to replace the multi-story car park by the park.

Members of the local community have recently come together to create a Friends of Guy Street Park group to feed residents’ ideas for the re-dedesign into the council.
The Friends will be having their first meeting in Bermondsey Village Hall (the community building in Leathermarket Gardens) at 7pm on Monday 19th January.

The meeting will discuss:
- See and feedback on the latest plans and concept designs
- Hear about the funding and next steps
- Meet some of the volunteers so far
Membership of the Friends of Guy Street Park is free, and you can join online here.
