A group of 84 young people from across Southwark were honoured for their achievements at the Jack Petchey Foundation’s latest awards ceremony held at Sinfonia Smith Square writes Jessica Khan…
The live event celebrated award winners aged 11–25 for their contributions to their schools, colleges and clubs, recognising their commitment, service and positive impact.
Each young person received a medallion, a framed certificate and a £300 grant to support a project benefiting their community.
Five adults were also presented with Leader Awards for their exceptional work in motivating and inspiring young people. They were honoured with medallions and framed certificates acknowledging their sustained dedication.
“I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society,” said Sir Jack Petchey CBE.

Among the honourees was Elisha, 15, of St Thomas the Apostle College, who was recognised for his hard work, humility and excellence as one of the top boxers in his age and weightnationally.
His teachers say he has become a respected role model among his peers, and he chose to use his £300 grant to fund a trip to Chessington World of Adventures for his year group.

Evie, 18, of St Michael’s Catholic College, received the Jack Petchey Environmental Award for her leadership of the school’s Eco-Committee over the past four years. She has organised student volunteers, created curriculum resources, delivered staff talks and collaborated with other schools to expand environmental initiatives.
Reflecting on her award, Evie said, “If you think you can do it, you’re already halfway there.”
The foundation was set up in 1999 to inspire and celebrate the achievements of younger people. It has invested more than £2.2 million in Southwark since its funding began.

Mayor of Southwark Councillor Sunny Lambe praised the winners, calling the evening “inspiring, motivating and celebrating all the awardees.”
