Students at St Thomas the Apostle School in Nunhead are celebrating GCSE success with half of the grades awarded being 7 or above and a pass rate of 92% across all subjects.
Despite joining during the height of the pandemic, the 160 cohort has made great progress in their secondary school careers.
Results highlights include:
- Half of grades awarded are 7 or above
- 86% of students achieved five or more GCSEs passes including English and Maths
- Pass rate of 92% across all subjects
- 28 students achieved a clean sweep of grades 7-9
Ola, joined STAC in Year 7 and achieved ten grade 9s and one grade 8. Ola is described as a model STAC student, embodying what it means to be a STAC boy, working hard and showing strength of character. He said: “All I can say is a big thank you to all my teachers and all who helped me in my journey to where I am today.”

Another student, Bruce, who also joined in Year 7 achieved nine grade 9s and four grade 8s. Throughout school, he was keenly involved in everything STAC had to offer him – he was in the school production, has toured with the school Gospel Choir and was a Prefect in Year 11.

Bruce said: “The GCSE journey is one we’d expect is purely individual, yet I found myself revising more in groups and with close friends than I ever did by myself. With a solid support system and the right people, you can immediately change the trajectory of your academic life.”
Headteacher Eamon Connolly commented: “I first met this cohort of students at an uncertain time – their primary schooling had been disrupted to the point that their SATS exams were cancelled, and our induction sessions were socially distanced… with two thirds of the cohort achieving a 7 or above, showing what they were capable of and today gives a full set of results of which we and they are rightfully proud.”
