ALEX Neil believes Millwall’s recent good form will give his side “confidence” ahead of their play-off-deciding clash with Burnley on the final day of the season, Saturday, May 3.
The Lions beat Swansea City 1-0 at The Den on Saturday to win their fifth home game in a row and draw level with sixth-placed Coventry City, who remain ahead on goal difference. The Sky Blues have only picked up seven points from their last seven games and host ninth-placed Middlesbrough this weekend, who are two points off the top six.
Millwall have put themselves in a strong position to reach the Championship play-offs for the first time since 2002, but to do so, they will have to get a result against a formidable opponent on Saturday.
Burnley have not lost a game since their 1-0 defeat at The Den on November 3, 2024, and are unbeaten at home all season.
The Clarets have already secured automatic promotion but are still vying for the title with Leeds United, and are three points above the Whites with a game in hand.
When asked in the post-match press conference if his side’s recent good form will give them a boost heading into their trip to Turf Moor, Neil said: “What it’ll do for the players is give them confidence. It’ll give them belief going there.
“The fact is, we’re in good form. Even when we’re not quite at our best, which I didn’t think we were today, we still managed to win the game.
“More importantly, we weren’t playing a team that’s struggling, we were playing a team who’s been in really good form themselves. So from that perspective, we’re really pleased with what we’ve done. I’ve been really proud of the players since I’ve come here. They’re an unbelievable group to work with. As I said to them, we’ve still got one more to go.”
