ALEX Mitchell believes that Millwall players will be hurting after failing to secure a top-six finish, but adds that they will be even more determined to go one further next season.
The defender has spent the campaign out on loan at Scottish Premiership side St. Johnstone, winning their Young Player of the Season award over the weekend.
While his focus has been on football in Perth, he has kept a keen eye on the Lions’ play-off push, albeit that he was unable to watch their 4-3 defeat against Blackburn Rovers on the final day.
Despite the heartache of their disappointing collapse last week, Mitchell believes that Millwall have now set the bar at qualifying for the play-offs, meaning that he will be in for a strenuous pre-season once he returns to South London over the summer.
“Throughout the season, I’ve always kept tabs on [Millwall’s] results,” he told NewsAtDen.
“With how the season has finished, they [the players] are probably a bit disappointed, but I think it’s been quite a good season for everybody.
“It just adds a bit of pressure on trying to match that standard going into next year, because I know for a fact that pre-season will be tough this summer.
“Based on how well they’ve done this year, they’re only going to want to go in one direction. I’ve got to be on it for pre-season.”
