A Lewisham-based charity won first place at the London New Year’s Day Parade, earning a £15,000 prize to support its work with young people, writes Callum Smyth…
Urban Synergy, which helps 30,000 young people annually through mentorship, skills training, and work experience programs, plans to use the prize money to further its mission of reaching 50,000 young people by 2027.
The winning float, titled “A Brighter Tomorrow: Powered by Youth and Innovation,” was designed by local artists from Goldsmiths University and brought to life with performances by Mahogany Carnival Arts, Lewisham Youth Theatre, Queen’s Walking Group, and SQS.
Leila Thomas, CEO & Founder of Urban Synergy, said: “This win is not just for Urban Synergy but for Lewisham and young people in urban areas as a whole.”
The Mayor of Lewisham, Brenda Dacres, said: “Urban Synergy has done us proud, and I’m thrilled that this prize will help them continue their vital work with our young people.
“It’s a reflection of our borough’s creativity, resilience, and community spirit.”
The Urban Synergy float celebrated a brighter future powered by youth, featuring bold designs and performances that highlighted the innovation and ambition that represent urban synergy.
