Firefighters were called on New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January) after a ‘small pile of rubbish caught alight’ in the stairwell of a block of maisonettes in Rotherhithe.
The Brigade was called just after 1am to the fire on Cope Street, between Rotherhithe Old Road and Lower Road, and mobilised two fire engines from Peckham and Lee Green stations to the scene.
The fire was extinguished by 01:41 am.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to a fire at a block of maisonettes on Cope Street in Bermondsey.
“A small amount of rubbish was alight in an external stairway on the first floor. There are no reports of any injuries.
“Control Officers took the first of 13 calls at 0109 (01/01) and mobilised two fire engines from Peckham and Lee Green fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 0141.”
