A new employment centre has been launched by Southwark Council in Peckham to help local residents find sustainable, well-paid work, writes Maya Sgaravato-Grant…
The ‘Southwark Works’ hub, situated on Peckham Hill Street, will offer advice and support to jobseekers, with a particular focus on removing barriers to work for those with long-term health conditions, disabilities and complex needs.
In order to further aid residents with various needs, the space will also provide select NHS services.
“This will have a positive impact in helping people with complex needs remove the barriers they face into employment,” said Cllr John Batteson, Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency, Jobs & Business.

This centre will complement a pre-existing ‘Southwark Works’ site based on Walworth Road, although employment support for residents remains available online.
It will participate in the new ‘Connect to Work’ programme, funded through the Department for Work and Pensions.
This programme seeks to provide personalised employment support to more than 2,000 Southwark residents with complex needs over the next four years.
The new resource comes as Southwark revealed that it had supported nearly 3,000 residents with complex needs to find work since April 2022, surpassing the council delivery plan target.
