Figures recently updated by the Metropolitan Police reveal that across both December 2025 and January 2026, Southwark had the highest amount of recorded criminal offences across south east London, writes Frankie Hills…
According to the Met’s total number of offences (TNO) database, a total of 3,215 incidents were reported to police in December, with this slightly decreasing to 3,070 by the end of January.
The total number of recorded criminal incidents therefore stands at 6,285 within the last 2 months.
This comparatively puts Southwark ahead of other boroughs in south east London by a significant margin in terms of recorded crime.
Neighbouring Lewisham recorded the second-highest crime rate across the same time period, yet only tallied 4,695 incidents.
Theft was the most commonly reported across Southwark, totalling 2,578, with this including reports of crimes like shoplifting.
The second most frequent crime reported was violent offences against a person, with 1,427 incidents being recorded. This includes homicide, stalking and harassment and violence with or without injury.
Burglary, robbery, criminal damage and sexual offences totalled 1,234.
Finally, crimes such as drug offences, weapons possession, motor offences, public order offences and other miscellaneous crimes made up the remaining 1,046 reports.
The trends from the data revealed that personal and property-related crimes are making up a significant portion of cases being reported with just over 42% of incidents reported within the TNO.
