The MP for Clapham and Brixton Hill, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, participated in a Q&A session at a local Sixth Form earlier this month, writes Maya Sgaravato-Grant.
The session, which was held at Harris Clapham Sixth Form on 6 February and attended by 50 A Level Politics students, covered a variety of domestic and international issues.
Sarah Heuston, Principal of the Sixth Form, said it was a ‘pleasure’ to welcome the MP.
She said: “Ms Ribeiro-Addy was a fantastic guest speaker and we are grateful for the time she took to speak so openly with our students.
“Her visit provided valuable real-world context to their studies and encouraged further interest and engagement with politics both inside and outside the classroom.”
Pupils also expressed an appreciation for the event, which touched on topics ranging from student loans to voting for 16-year olds.
Year 12 student Daniela Julissa Freitas Arico spoke of the ‘great insight’ she gained from the talk.
She said: “I was inspired by Bell’s passion to help the community and think there is much we can learn from her.”
Fellow Year 12 Harvey Mersh said: “It was exciting to meet Bell and ask her about some of the most pressing political issues of the day.”
Harris Clapham Sixth Form is based on Kings Avenue, and has hosted Bell Ribeiro-Addy previously.
