Pupils at Ark Globe Academy in Southwark and Ark John Archer Academy in Wandsworth had a series of inspiring workshops from the Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO) last week.
RBO artists delivered three ‘Discover Opera’ sessions across the two schools, to help pupils deepen their understanding of dramatic singing and to learn how they can get involved in their Saturday singing programmes.
During the classes, pupils explored their vocal and dramatic skills, workshopping a selection from Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’.
Around 70 eight and nine-year-olds took part.

Ark Primary Music Specialist Jo Kilpatrick said: “These engaging sessions offer our children a real immersion in the world of opera. They really enjoy learning more about the dramatic arts and using their voices in this ‘big’ way.”
RBO Youth Opera Programme Manager Sophie Steers added, “Our artists had a brilliant time working with the students from Ark Globe and Ark John Archer.
“It was lovely to see them so engaged in the music. Hopefully, this was just the first step on their operatic journeys!”
