A bereaved father who lost his baby daughter is running seven marathons in seven days to raise money for the team at the hospital who supported him and his wife through their grief.

In April, Michael Brennan and his wife Amelia tragically lost their baby daughter just days after she was born due to complications during the birth.

Michael Brennan and his business partner William Richards will be running 200 miles next week to raise money for King’s College Hospital’s Maternity Bereavement Team, who supported Michael and his wife in the aftermath of their loss.

The two men will start from King’s College Hospital in Camberwell on Monday and end in Cowen, North Wales on Sunday, 21 September where Michael and his wife placed Tibetan Prayer Flags in the memory of a baby they lost previously following a miscarriage.

Michael and William, who co-own a body wash brand, have both run marathons before – but neither have taken on a challenge quite like the one they are preparing to embark on next week.

“We hope that our journey can bring awareness and support to families experiencing the unimaginable loss that we sadly faced this year,” said Michael, who lives in south west London.

“This challenge is for the mums and dads that have been, that could have been, and that will be in this situation. The care my wife Amelia received at King’s College Hospital was extraordinary. Raising funds and awareness for the dedicated team is our personal way of expressing our heartfelt gratitude.”

Funds raised will support the King’s Maternity Bereavement Team and awareness for the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine, which provides vital care and research to improve outcomes for unborn babies in the UK.

To date, the challenge has already raised over £9,000, with donations continuing via JustGiving.
