Thousands of people will be taking part in the Cancer Research UK Shine Night Walk on Saturday in Southwark Park, affecting traffic on Jamaica Road and other areas.
The full and half marathon event starts at 6pm, ,meaning the following traffic changes will take place:
- The inside lane of Jamaica Road will be closed from Southwark Park to the junction with St James Road from 7pm until midnight. This will affect access to Southwark Park Road, Drummond Road, Keaton’s Road and St James Road. Parking bays on this section of Jamaica Road will also be suspended from 6pm which will impact on bus stops in the area.
- One lane of Druid Street between Abbey Street and Tanner Street will be closed from 7.35pm until 12.30am but residents will still be able to access the Arnold Estate and Sweeney Crescent. All parking bays on this section will be suspended from 6pm.
- Jamaica Road, Tower Bridge Road, Tooley Street and Lower Road are likely to be congested until 11.30pm.
Traffic management stewards will be supervising the area on the night and clear signs will be displayed prior to the event. To avoid delays to their journeys drivers are advised to stay clear of the area if possible.
Since it began in 2010, Shine has raised an incredible £22million to help fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work, but it doesn’t stop there. In 2016 it’s hoped that Shine will raise more than £4million so that Cancer Research UK can beat cancer sooner.
Money raised through Shine goes to fund research in to more than 200 types of cancer or 12 specific types of cancer including lung, bowel, breast, prostate, children’s cancers, brain, skin, ovarian, leukaemia, pancreatic, cervical, and testicular.
