An East Dulwich man will celebrate his mother’s victory over cancer with a gruelling fundraising campaign involving hiking, biking and running.

In the space of ten days, 24-year-old Tom Lynas (pictured left)?will cycle over 700 miles, climb three mountains and run the London Marathon. This ‘Bike Hike Run’ fundraiser will be in aid of Cancer Research UK.

His mother Jacqui Morrell was diagnosed in March last year but fortunately responded well to chemotherapy and surgery. She completed her treatment in September.

The personal trainer said: “When our amazing mum told us about her illness, along with the sadness and anger, the most overwhelming feeling was helplessness. With pride and determination we watched her face up to the many challenges of her treatment and shared her relief when we were told the treatment had been successful.

“We decided then to convert our feelings of helplessness into action, to try and help others by supporting Cancer Research UK in its mission to beat cancer sooner.”

The exhausting challenge will begin on April 17th, when Tom and his brother Sam, of Kensal Rise, (pictured right) will climb Ben Nevis and then cycle to Crianlarich, a small town over 50 miles away.

Over the next ten days, the pair will climb Scaffel Pike and Snowdon, before running the London Marathon as a grand finale. They will cycle between every point on their journey.

Helen Jackson of Cancer Research UK said: “It’s thanks to the support of people like Sam and Tom that Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists are able to go on making progress in the fight against cancer.

“Every hour more than three people in London are diagnosed with cancer. Everyone who pulls on their trainers for Cancer Research UK will know they are helping to create more tomorrows for families like theirs.”
