Lambeth and Southwark Mind have opened new offices and counselling spaces in Brixton.

The opening of the new offices was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 2 with Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich & West Norwood, Florence Eshalomi, MP for Vauxhall, and the Mayor of Lambeth, Annie Gallop.

Lambeth and Southwark Mind has supported 1,821 people in the community in 2020-2021, providing them with general psychotherapy, psychosis therapy and peer support programs.

It is especially relevant for Southwark and Lambeth who have strong BAME communities, as people of black heritage are twice as likely to have a mental illness as their white British counterparts.

Helen Hayes MP, commenting on her work with the charity in 2021, said: “‘I am very impressed with the work and services of Lambeth and Southwark Mind.

“In April 2021, I submitted to parliament on behalf of the charity, their consultation on the Mental Health Act Reform White paper. I look forward to continuing with this work in the New Year.”

Alastair Smith-Agbaje, CEO for Lambeth & Southwark Mind said: “This is a strategic move for the charity, moving to an office space that is practical, fit for the purpose and in an excellent location, offering increased facilities for counselling which is so important during these  difficult times with a huge demand on our services.”

The evening opened with a lively singing rendition of the popular 1970’s Sister Sledge song ‘We are Family’ led by Mark De-Lisser, vocal coach, choral director arranger, and former Lambeth resident.

The new offices are located in the heart of Brixton, at Unit 4, Piano House, 9 Brighton Terrace, SW9 8DJ.
