ALEX Neil said he was “delighted” after Millwall triggered an option in Casper De Norre’s contract to extend his stay by at least another year.
The 29-year-old Belgian’s deal was set to expire this summer but will now run until 2027 on the same terms.
De Norre has been ever-present when fit this season, making 26 appearances, scoring once and assisting four. He also recorded the most minutes in the squad last season (3,606), featuring in all 46 league games.
“Casper’s been a key part of our team since I’ve been here,” Neil told NewsAtDen. “He understands his role as well as anybody in the team in terms of getting the ball back and getting on and triggering the press and being that guy that we rely on physically to work between both boxes.
“Casper’s been excellent since I’ve been here, and delighted that he’s going to be with us next year.”
Neil also discussed De Norre’s role within the dressing room.
“All the lads are important to the culture,” Neil said. “It’s hard to pinpoint one player who carries the culture, if that makes sense. It’s a collective thing.
“With Casper, he’s more of a quiet leader. He’s more of a doer rather than a sayer, if that makes sense. But he certainly leads by example with his professionalism, by the way he goes about his work. His sort of tenaciousness and his desire to win.”
De Norre joined Millwall from Belgian side OH Leuven in the summer of 2023. He previously had stints at Sint-Truiden, ASV Geel and Genk.
