Tracey Emin’s art will be displayed in 22 locations across 11 boroughs as her Tate Modern Exhibition opens today (Friday February 27), writes Tom Appleby…
Emin’s neon artwork has been showcased across London ahead of the new Tate Modern exhibition A Second Life.
The designs which free to visit and display poignant messages expressed in the artist’s unique handwriting style.
Croydon born Emin, who shot to fame in the 1990s, is celebrated for using her artistic design as both a tool of self-expression and a way to connect to others.
Her poetic declarations have included “I Whisper to My Past do I Have Another Choice” and “I Can Feel You Everywhere.”
The project has been made possible by her collaboration with the creative street advertising agency, Jack Arts, and will be shown across the capital until Monday 9 March.
Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, said: “Tracey Emin is one of the most significant contemporary artists of her generation… By transforming our city into an art gallery, all Londoners will have the chance to see these striking neon works for free, as we build a better London for everyone.”
Tate director, Maria Balshaw, added: “This citywide project beautifully extends Emin’s longstanding use of neon to share messages of raw intimacy. Whether encountered on a morning commute or discovered quietly on a neighbourhood street, Londoners can experience her work in a way that feels personal.”
Emin’s artwork has been exhibited worldwide. Her message “I promise to love you” was displayed in Times Square, New York, in 2013, while “I want my time with you” has been shown at St Pancras Station since 2018.”
