The Southbank Centre is offering 18-25-year-olds in Southwark and Lambeth the chance to gain experience and skills in archiving, writes Cristina Trujillo…
The project, called Archive Reframed: The Bill Tonkin Collection, is recommended for young creatives seeking to kickstart or boost their career.
The Southbank Centre is looking for 15 volunteers to join the one-off programme on Monday, 2 February.
Running between 8am and 12pm, the day will teach volunteers the rules of archiving and encourage them to get creative by teaming up with designers to create a zine-style print catalogue interpreting an archival collection.
The collection in question includes historic materials from the Festival of Britain in 1951, currently situated in the Southbank Centre’s Bill Tonkin Collection. The Bill Tonkin Collection is the Southbank Centre’s most recent acquisition.
The print catalogue will be shown at a public event, offering volunteers a valuable opportunity to showcase their work. The project is a part of wider 75th anniversary celebrations at the Southbank Centre.
Applicants should be out of full-time employment or looking to explore an alternative career.
When: Monday, 2 February 2026, 8am–12pm
