JOSH Coburn has won the March Championship player of the month award.
A Millwall player has now won the award in successive months, with Coburn following Femi Azeez’s February success.
The 23-year-old striker scored three in four games, including the winner against Derby County, an equaliser at Ipswich Town and a late strike at Hull City.
Coburn has since bagged a brace against boyhood club Middlesbrough, taking his season’s tally to nine goals in all competitions, joint-top in the squad with Mihailo Ivanovic.
Alex Neil said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Josh and well deserved. He’s accumulated us a lot of points with his goals and I think it’s lovely for the club to have Femi win one month and then him the next – it speaks volumes of the run we’ve been on.
“He had a bit of a disrupted season at the start, but I think we are now seeing the benefits of him leading the line.”
Coburn said: “I’m really happy to win this award. I want to thank my team-mates for helping me towards winning it, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them. I hope to score many more goals this season – we’ll just keep on going and see where it takes us!”
Coburn first signed for the Lions on loan last campaign, scoring five goals, then joined the club permanently for a record fee last summer.
Southampton boss Tonda Eckert was named manager of the month.
