  • Murphy boasted of raping six-year-old and convincing 15-year-old to have sex with him

  • He uploaded sick pictures of children to an undercover police officer

  • He claimed he was suffering from ‘worry and stress’ and had indulged in a four-day cocaine binge

A minicab controller who boasted of raping a six-year-old to an online investigator while indulging in a four-day cocaine binge escaped jail on Friday.

Paul Murphy, 41, was snared by a covert online investigator when he was trawling an adult website and using SKYPE chat.

Hiding behind names Hybrid30 and Midnight Black, Murphy boasted of raping the six-year-old and inciting a fifteen-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity with him.

Murphy proceeded to upload a number of indecent images to the undercover police officer, Southwark Crown Court heard.

Bearded Murphy initially disclosed his sick fantasies to the police officer, posing under the name of ‘Andrew,’ because he thought he was a ‘like-minded individual.’

Murphy conversed with the officer over SKYPE and a website called ‘Motherless.’

His claims also included that he had sexually assaulted three girls as well as a nine-year-old boy.

Judge: “The offences are serious… you made some alarming assertions to the person you thought was interested in those things.”

Unaware he was talking to the police, he bragged about convincing a fifteen-year-old girl to have sex with him.

During the course of the “chat” on November 5 last year, Murphy sent the undercover officer a string of child abuse pictures, some of which he claimed were his victims.

The following day, Murphy’s work address was searched as officers feared he was a ‘hands on’ child abuser.

Peter Zinner, prosecuting, said Murphy had uploaded the images to “demonstrate his credentials as a paedophile.”

Murphy was handed an eighteen-month custodial sentence, suspended for 24 months, on Friday.

Sentencing Murphy Judge Anthony Pitts said: “Some of the background of this case causes me some very real concern.

“The offences are serious… you made some alarming assertions to the person you thought was interested in those things.”

“You are still refusing to come to terms with the degree of problem you had. It seemed to me that there was no possible way to sentence you apart from an immediate custodial sentence of some length. I have been asked to rethink that by your counsel and by various medical reports presented to me.”

Judge Pitts recognised the medical reports, which highlighted trauma Murphy had suffered in his childhood, depressive episodes and a struggle with Obsessive Compulsive disorder.

“I get the impression, which is not often the case, that you are not a lost cause,” he added.

In interview, Murphy said he was in a long term relationship and his girlfriend was pregnant.

He claimed he was suffering from worry and stress and had indulged in a four-day cocaine binge at the time of the offences.

Murphy was said to have been going through a tough time and was ‘reaching pressure point.’

A relationship with an ex-partner, who has since given birth to Murphy’s child, has subsequently ended. He has two other adult children.

Murphy, of Acorn Walk in Rotherhithe, admitted ten charges of possessing indecent images of children.

He denied three counts of possession of movies showing indecent images of children, which was accepted by prosecutors who offered no evidence on one of the counts.
