Evelina Children’s Hospital in Waterloo is leading the battle against the Meningitis outbreak as it treats a nine-month-old baby from Kent.
Nala-Rose Fletcher, from Folkestone, has been described as being ‘seriously ill’ and in intensive care at the hospital.
The leading children’s hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, is one of only two specialist paediatric hospitals in London, caring for more than 100,000 children every year.

Nala-Rose is the first case of meningitis being treated in London since an outbreak in Kent last week and is described as being in a ‘critical but stable condition’.
The nine-month-old needs two surgeries, which the family told KentOnline will be “life-changing” for her. Her heartbroken parents, Danielle Trott and Nick Fletcher, remain by her side.
It is understood that Nala-Rose is vaccinated but became unwell on March 4, just before more cases emerged in the Canterbury area of Kent last week.
The outbreak, which experts are describing as a “once in a generation outbreak”, has already taken the lives of two young people in Canterbury.
It is unknown whether Nala’s case is directly connected to the outbreak in Kent, which has now been declared a national incident.
A JustGiving page has been set up to support the family and is currently at £5,918.
It had a target of £5,000, which was quickly surpassed, so the fundraising goal has been increased to £20,000
It was launched by Dan Atkinson, who accrding to Kent Online employs Mr Fletcher at Ramsgate-based Guildcrest Homes. He wrote on the page: “We have increased our target with a view to help Nick and Danielle to provide any equipment they will need when Nala is eventually discharged from hospital.
