Local businesses have called for Peckham to be made into an improvement district like the one at Bermondsey’s Blue.
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a partnership between local businesses who have agreed to pay a levy which goes towards improvements designed to boost the local economy.
The money could be spent on better security, landscaping or improved marketing and promotion of local businesses.

Southwark already has BIDs covering Bankside, the Southbank Centre and Bermondsey’s Blue Market on Southwark Park Road.
The Peckham Business Forum and local MP Miatta Fahnbulleh gathered at the newly reopened nightclub Peckham Palais on Wednesday (25 February) to discuss ways of improving the local economy, including the possibility of turning Peckham into a BID.
They have asked all businesses in the area to contribute to a survey which will help them decide on the next steps.
Miatta Fahnbulleh, MP for Peckham, said: “A Business Improvement District represents an important opportunity for local businesses to shape their future.

“It is encouraging to see such strong engagement from Peckham businesses to secure the coordinated support and investment needed to help our local economy thrive. I fully support The Peckham Business Forum and will be working with them in any way I can to progress this vital initiative.”
Sandra Ferguson, CEO of Peckham’s Business Forum, said: “Peckham’s greatest strength has always been its business community: diverse, resilient, creative and deeply rooted.

“This conversation isn’t about starting from scratch; it’s about building on what already works and strengthening the connections between traders, partners and the wider community. If we can bring those strengths together with a shared vision, we can shape solutions that genuinely reflect Peckham’s identity and help the area thrive long into the future.”
