A new initiative launched in several libraries is bringing greeting cards raising money for charity, writes Cristina Trujillo…
Cards for Good Causes are now being sold at multiple Greenwich libraries as well as at a gift shop in Blackheath Library. All proceeds go to charities and local libraries.
Cards for Good Causes CEO Christine Ansell said: “We’re delighted to be part of the local library community in Greenwich and Blackheath.
“At a time when many charities and community spaces are facing real financial pressure, every purchase makes a meaningful difference, supporting vital charitable work while also helping sustain the libraries that sit at the heart of our communities.”
The charity range can be found at Eltham Library, West Greenwich Library, and Greenwich Centre Library. With support from many volunteers, Cards for Good Causes has donated £25 million to charities and good causes over the last ten years as the UK’s largest multi-charity card and gift retailer.
This year, Cards for Good Causes raises money for Alzheimer’s Society, Amnesty, Barnardo’s, British Heart Foundation, Bowel Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK, Crisis, Embrace the Middle East, Make A Wish, Marie Curie, Mind, RSPCA, Samaritans, Shelter, WaterAid and WWF, among many others.
The non-profit was set up in 1959 when James Jackson, secretary of the British Diabetic Association, organised with other medical charities to sell Christmas cards that could raise money for their groups and others.
