A 25-year-old man has been extradited from Nigeria and charged this week with the 2018 murder of Joshua Boadu in Bermondsey.
Joshua, who locally was affectionately known as SJ, was stabbed in broad daylight on Linsey Street, near the Blue Market, in Bermondsey on 11 June 2018.
The 23-year-old was rushed to King’s College Hospital with stab wounds on his chest, neck and arm, where he sadly died ten days later. He had suffered a heart attack on the way to hospital and his life support was turned off.
Two suspects – 21-year old Denilson Davis from Hemel Hempstead and a 16-year-old boy from Southwark who couldn’t be named because of his age – were convicted of SJ’s murder at the Old Bailey in 2019. They were sentenced to 21 years and 15 years in prison, respectively.
Matthew Adebiyi, 25, arrived in London on Wednesday April 15, was charged with the murder and was due to appear before magistrates.
Joshua’s grieving family revealed that he had been excited for his first-ever family holiday to Canada and paid tribute to their beloved son saying he was full of ‘untapped potential’. They said he had hoped to become an engineer.

The 2019 trial at the Old Bailey heard how Davis had driven to Linsey Street in a Peugeot with the 16-year-old boy as his passenger and ambushed SJ.
Less than a week after the attack, police officers noticed the Peugeot and saw the driver running away. Davis was arrested and his fingerprints, along with the DNA of the 16-year-old and Mr Boadu’s blood were all found in the car. A hunting knife and a mobile phone were recovered from the car, and Davis admitted they belonged to him.
