MILLWALL’S dynamic right-hand side has been recognised as Tristan Crama and Femi Azeez have both been named in the Championship Team of the Season.
The duo have been instrumental to the Lions’ success this campaign, with Millwall on the verge of securing their first second-tier top-six finish since 2002.
Azeez has thrived in his second season in the Championship since moving from the left wing to the right, leading the squad in goal contributions (fifteen) and assists (seven), while also topping the scoring charts for much of the season before being surpassed by Josh Coburn and Mihailo Ivanovic.
The 24-year-old was subject to heavy interest from automatic promotion rivals Ipswich Town in the January window, with the club submitting several bids, including one that would have represented a club-record sale.
Crama, also 24 and in his second season in the Championship, has also impressed across several positions. Despite predominantly playing centrally, injuries to Ryan Leonard and Danny McNamara meant he debuted at right-back, and, despite the unfamiliarity with the position, proved highly effective.
The sale of Japhet Tanganga last August saw him partner Jake Cooper at the heart of defence for several months before the emergence of Caleb Taylor allowed him to move back out to the right, where he has formed a strong partnership with Azeez.
While defensively excellent, Crama also has the second-most assists in the squad (six) and has chipped in with three goals, behind only Ivanovic and Azeez in goal contributions.
The full team of the season was: Carl Rushworth (Coventry City); Milan van Ewijk (Coventry City, Tristan Crama (Millwall), Callum Doyle (Wrexham), Josh Tymon (Swansea City); Femi Azeez (Millwall), Hayden Hackney (Middlesbrough), Matt Grimes (Coventry City), Sorba Thomas (Stoke City); Zan Vipotnik (Swansea City), Haji Wright (Coventry City)
Hackney was named player of the season, while Coventry’s Frank Lampard was crowned manager of the season.
