Four men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following a triple stabbing outside a nightclub off the Old Kent Road.
In the early hours of Easter Monday police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a group of people outside a venue in Ruby Street, a largely industrial area near the old gas works on the South Bermondsey side of the Old Kent Road.
Upon arrival, just before 4am, police officers and paramedics found a 26-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. He has later been named as Aurelio Mejia, but despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said his family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The Met said that two other men in their 20s were also found with injuries and both remain in hospital in a life-threatening condition. They are now appealing for anyone who attended the club that night to contact them.
Four men, one aged 18 and three aged 24, were arrested later on Monday on suspicion of murder. They all remain in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the Met’s investigation, said: “This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.
“We have already arrested four men and our investigation continues at pace. We are aware of the concern that this will cause the local community and those in the area will notice an increased police presence throughout the day.
“This assault occurred outside a busy nightclub, and we’d encourage anyone who has any information, dashcam or mobile phone footage which could support the investigation to contact us.”
Anyone with information or footage is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 1033/6APR, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
