CASPER DE Norre said he was pleased to stay at Millwall after the club triggered the one-year option in his contract.
The 29-year-old Belgian’s contract had been due to expire this summer, but the club exercised an option to extend it by a year on the same terms, NewsAtDen exclusively revealed this week.
The Lions’ hierarchy activated the extension ahead of a March 31 deadline.
De Norre had previously expressed a desire to remain at the club long-term and welcomed the certainty over his future.
“I’ve always said that I want to stay here,” De Norre told NewsAtDen. “I’m happy that the option got triggered to at least stay for another year.
“Whatever stage you are in your career, it’s always good to have certainty. So no matter when it comes, it’s important to have it. So, I’m happy that I know it now.”
The midfielder has been a key part of Millwall’s success this season, making 26 appearances in all competitions as the Lions edge closer to their first Championship play-off appearance in over 20 years.
Millwall are nine points clear of seventh-placed Wrexham heading into the final four games of the season, and can secure a top-six finish this weekend if results go their way.
Automatic promotion is not out of the question either after Ipswich Town’s 2-0 loss to relegation-battling Portsmouth on Tuesday. The Lions are now two points off second-placed Ipswich, having played one more game.
De Norre was asked how he sees the run-in ahead of his side’s clash with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
“Just four more games to try and win,” De Norre said. “Try to be the best we can be and see where we’re at after those 46 games.
“If we’re then in the play-offs, then it’s going to be another competition again. Then it doesn’t really matter what happened in the 46 games before. It’s a new competition.”
De Norre was asked if making the play-offs would be the highlight of his Millwall career.
“When I first signed here, the year before, they just missed out on the playoffs,” De Norre said. “Since I’ve been here, it’s basically been the goal of the club to go to the playoffs.
“First year was a little bit difficult, then second year we missed it on the last day again, but that was a bit of a surprise that we could get it.
“The flow of last year resulted in how we’ve been performing this year. I think we have to get in the playoffs now and we deserve to be in it. It would definitely be the highlight of my Millwall career and maybe even of my whole career.”
